Fire Damaged Tree Removal

PRIVATE PROPERTY DEBRIS/TREE REMOVAL HELP – County contractors can assist fire homeowner with ‘Removal of items that are a threat to public safety in the Right of Way, the ingress/egress into the property, & surrounding the home’.   Property owners can register for removal of dead or standing trees with a ‘Right of Entry’ Form and Insurance Policy (no coverage duplication).   APPLY at SAIC office, Hunters Crossing Center behind Home Depot.<MAP>

Site survey will be performed for targeted tree removal.   Registration for this County service is expected to end late January, with removal continuing afterward.

Directions from Bastrop, exit Texas 71 on Texas 95 South, cross the river. Turn left on Loop 230 at the traffic light. 

Proceed eastbound on Loop 230 three (3) blocks past the traffic light at Main Street; the church is on the far left corner. 

Parking is available at the Baptist church located on the opposite corner of the block behind 1st Presbyterian.  On-street parking is fine as well.

EXPO great success!

The BASTROP COUNTY EXPO SAT, Nov 19, was an unqualified success, according to overflow crowd attending.   Congratulations to the Bastrop Economic Development Corporation / Bastrop* Elgin* Smithville* Texas – BEST / Chambers of Commerce, and other sponsors <EXPO details>.   ..

Enhanced DRC opening

NEW DISASTER RECOVERY CENTER OPENING.   Though the government-funded Bastrop Disaster Recovery Center closed Friday, November 18, people who lost homes and belongings to fire can still find assistance and support at a new Bastrop County Disaster Resource and Volunteer Center (DRC) opening at 1091 Hwy 71 W. Bastrop, TX <map>.  Currently the Volunteer Reception Center, the Hwy 71 site will become the permanent ‘One Stop’ Bastrop recovery resource.

The new DRC will offer victim services, relief resources, and volunteer opportunities,  and case management, plus fire safety preparedness and prevention assistance for everyone.    This community-directed nonprofit center is not funded by government.   All services are made possible by contributions of volunteer time and financial support from individuals and organizations who want to help others survive the largest fire in Texas history, and start rebuilding lives.

FEMA closing Bastrop Disaster Recovery Center

FEMA to CLOSE Bastrop DISASTER RECOVERY CENTER FRIDAY, November 18...
T
he Federal Emergency Management Agency funded and operated t he Bastrop Complex Wildfires Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) located at 1602 Hill St., Bastrop, TX 78602.   FEMA is permanently closing that center at 6pm, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2011.   All organizations, agencies and materials will be removed from the center at that time.  Other FEMA assistance services will continue to be provided by other facilities and by individual case managers.

BISD 'Healing Hands' counseling workshop Thurs, Nov. 17

Bastrop ISD will be hosting a HEALING HANDS - Counseling workshop NOVEMBER 17th, open to all Bastrop ISD and community members that have been affected directly or in-directly (providing housing for a neighbor, friend or family member) by the recent wildfires.

This second Community Conversation meeting with Judge McDonald helped Bastrop County residents understand where we stand, where we need to go, and how, working together, we can get there.  The open house and open conversation was held at the Smithville Recreation Center, Monday 10/24 between 6 and 8 pm.
