So since the motor presumably is a-ok at this point, maybe the problem actually is the alleged steering direction sensor. In my case at first they were replacing the entire steering column but later was just replacing the motor. I ran into this with a GM vehicle. It seems like for electric steering to work correctly, the motor has to be able to turn the wheels left to right, and there has to be a sensor which tells the computer directing the motor if the wheels are pointed in the correct direction or not. The warranty goes with the car, not the owner in all likelihood. Find More Posts by Greybeard

I could be a corroded connector, rotted wire, bad sensor, lots of possibilities. Follow the rest of the instructions and you should be good to go. In my picture I have the tip sitting in the hole so you can see where it comes from, but I pulled it all the way out and pushed it to the top.

Ergo, it goes up for sale. There are two steps that aren't really mentioned in ChevyMgr's thread and that's removing the knee plate and the knee bolster reinforcement.

I have highlighted something here because the cables get in the way and you can't get to the top nut properly. My steering developed a problem shortly before I took it in for the ignition switch recall. Hopefully someone here has some electric steering repair experience. Send a private message to sleeper.
